Red-browed amazon

Conservation Status: Vulnerable

Tracks featuring this species: ‘TIK TIK TIK’, Laughta

The red-browed amazon (Amazona rhodocorytha) is an increasingly rare parrot. It is found in the Atlantic forest of eastern Brazil, but is significantly threatened by habitat loss in the region and the wildlife pet trade.

Climate connections

Low numbers of the red-browed amazon makes this species especially vulnerable to climate change impacts in the future. Its habitat, Brazil’s Atlantic forest, plays an important role in mitigating climate change in the region. According to WWF, one hectare of forest in the Upper Paraná ecoregion can store an average of 223.5 tons of carbon. Protecting the biodiversity of the Atlantic forest - through actions such as ending deforestation, establishing friendly agro-ecosystems, and monitoring infrastructure projects - therefore also helps to tackle climate change.
